Hello Bolo

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 19 August 2026 · Applies to version 1.0

Hello Bolo collects no data at all. The app makes no network requests of any kind. There is no account, no sign-in, and nothing you do in the app ever leaves your phone.

Who is responsible

Hello Bolo is made by Hassan Javed, based in the United Kingdom. Because the app processes no personal data, there is no data controller relationship to describe under the UK GDPR — but if you have a concern, please write to us first at hsnjvx@outlook.com. You also have the right to raise a concern with the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

No account, no sign-in

Hello Bolo never asks you to register. We do not know who you are, we hold no name, email address, phone number or device identifier, and there is nothing about you for us to lose, sell or hand over.

Nothing is sent anywhere

The app contains no code that contacts a server. What you tap, search for, read or practise is never transmitted. This is not a promise about how we behave — it is how the app is built. There is no network layer to switch on.

All the lessons are already inside the app

Every conversation, phrase and word is stored inside the app when you install it. Nothing is downloaded afterwards. This is why Hello Bolo works with no signal at all — in a hospital basement, on the Underground, or with no data left on your plan.

Your progress stays on your phone

What you have completed, which cards you found tricky, and your settings are saved locally on your device. They are never uploaded, backed up to us, or shared. Deleting the app deletes all of it permanently, and we have no way to restore it.

No analytics, no advertising, no tracking

Hello Bolo contains no analytics tools, no advertising, and no third-party software kits of any kind. The app is built entirely with Apple's own frameworks. Nobody is measuring you.

Reminders

You can turn on two optional daily reminders — a practice nudge and a word of the day. They are switched off unless you turn them on, iOS asks your permission at that moment, and everything about them happens on your device: the reminder is scheduled locally and its text is chosen locally. No reminder is ever sent from a server, and no reminder names what you have been reading.

Pronunciation audio

When you tap the speaker button, the phrase is spoken by the voice built into iOS. The app does not record you, does not use the microphone, and asks for no microphone permission.

The two places the app hands you over

What Apple sees

Downloading Hello Bolo is a transaction with Apple, not with us. Apple gives developers anonymous, aggregate figures — how many people installed the app in a given country, for example. We never see who you are, and we receive nothing about what you do inside the app.

Children

Hello Bolo is written for adults but is safe for all ages, and is rated 4+. Since the app collects no information from anyone, it collects none from children either.

What this app is not

Hello Bolo teaches the English people use in everyday situations. It is not legal, medical, financial or immigration advice, and it is not connected to the NHS, any council, school, bank or government body. For advice about your own situation, speak to the organisation concerned or a qualified professional.

Changes to this policy

This policy describes version 1.0 of Hello Bolo. If a future version ever changes what the app does, this page will be updated before that version is released, and the date at the top will change with it.
